Top 5 Reasons You Should Stay at The All-Star Movies Resort
The All-Star Movies resort is now one of my favorite resorts to stay at while I am visiting WDW! I know what you are thinking, “A value resort is one of your favorites?” And yes, it is! There are many reasons behind this, so hear me out. Keep reading to find out why it may soon become one of your favorites too!
This article is part of a three-part series on the All-Star Resorts. Links to the other two are below!
1. Theming at the All-Star Movies
Out of the three All-Star Resorts, this one has to have the best theming! There are five amazingly themed sections: Mighty Ducks, 101 Dalmatians, Love Bug, Fantasia, and Toy Story. Each section is adorable in its own way! The larger than life characters from some of our favorite classic Disney movies is what really makes this resort stand out.
2. Rooms at the All-Star Movies
All-Star Movies is currently refurbishing their rooms, and the results are amazing! Instead of keeping the rooms to the typical hotel look with the bright colors, crazy patterns, and old carpet, they are going for a cleaner and streamed line look. The rooms now have hardwood floors and a modern design and feel to it. The updated rooms also consist of a Murphy bed. This is great because when the bed is not in use, it can be folded up and serve as a table. It also makes the room feel bigger and now you have a great place to drink your morning coffee (or if you are like my son, a great place to eat your pizza and watch Timon and Pumba talk about safety facts. If you don’t know what I am talking about, consider yourself lucky).
The bathroom upgrade is really nice as well. If you are familiar with the All-Star resorts, you know that there is usually a curtain that separates the bedroom from the sink area. This can sometimes cause a tough situation if you have people (like me) in your party that like to wake up early and get ready for the day when the rest of your party (like my husband) likes to sleep in. Light and sound easily come through that curtain and causes the other people in the room to wake up. That is no longer an issue with the rooms that are refurbished! They now have a wooden sliding door. While this doesn’t completely block the sound of a blow dryer, it does minimize it.
3. Food at the All-Star Movies
As I mentioned in my last article about the All-Star Music Resort, you don’t typically associate great food with the Value resorts. But I am here to change your mind! The food here is great with tons of options for everyone! Not only are their meal options great, but they also have AMAZING desserts! From themed cupcakes, to yummy pastries, to an ice cream bar! You really can’t go wrong with choosing to eat here.
Did you know that this resort also has a secret menu? Ask a castmember about it, and you will be in for a real treat! Disney makes everything an experience, and this secret menu will not disappoint!
4. Pools at the All-Star Movies
The pools here are adorable! The main pool has Sorcerer Mickey right in the middle, shooting water right into the pool. My son could have spent the whole week here if we let him. There is also a really cute separate splash area right next to this main pool. It’s a great spot for the younger kids that might not be ready to swim yet. Also, in the Mighty Duck section, there is another pool. This pool is usually quieter and less active than the main pool.
5. Activities at the All-Star Movies
There is so much to do at this resort! You can for sure spend a whole day, or more, here and not even go into the parks! From watching your favorite Disney movies, to an arcade, to tie-dying shirts, to sunrise yoga! There is something for everyone here at this resort! They even have special events going on throughout the year that anyone can participate in!
Now that I have given you my Top 5 reasons to stay at this resort, here are some facts about this place:
- Resort Category: Value

We stayed at All Star Movies the end of Nov/beginning of Dec 2018 because we always try to stay at a different resort each year we visit. And of the many resorts we’ve stayed in, AS Movies is the only resort we will NEVER stay at ever again! We were at Disney for eight days/nights. We left AS Movies after four. Would have left sooner had I been able to get a room at another resort at the last minute.
The buses are terrible! AS Movies is the last stop for buses picking up and dropping off. So by the time the bus hits AS Movies, it’s already full & you have to wait for the next one (which will close to capacity).
The concierge at the resort gave us bad advice when I asked about transportation for an early morning breakfast at Disney Springs. She said it wouldn’t be a problem getting back from DS. It was. Disney worries that too many staying at off site hotels go to DS to ride the Disney buses to parks for free, so they limit the amount of buses to a few of the resorts (none of which are value resorts). We had to take a bus to Port Orleans Riverside, then a bus to Hollywood Studios, and THEN a bus to AS Movies. When we got back, I had to stop at registration because we were now late checking out and I didn’t want to be charged for another day. I was told it had been taken care of, only to have a manager come to our door fussing because we hadn’t checked out yet!
And all of that was on top of the paper thin walls that let her hear EVERYTHING from the neighboring room. After listening to them fighting nonstop for 30 minutes with the F word being thrown out every other word, I called the Front Desk to complain. I had two kids with me who didn’t need to hear that (not to mention how unsettling that was). The phone was on the other side of the room and the lady at the front desk could hear it! She sent security up to their room. She would have offered us a different room, but there weren’t any available.
Yeah, never again. I don’t care how cheap the room is.

I am sorry that you didn’t have a great time! That is quite unfortunate.
As with anything, everyone can have a different experience- some good, some bad. And that stinks that your experience wasn’t on the good side. Your experience does not seem to be the norm for that resort, so maybe they just an off week. I have stayed a number of times and was fortunate to always have a great time! Again, I am sorry your stay there did not go as planned.
Fortunately, Disney has a vast range of resorts that hopefully will better suit you for next time. Good luck on your next trip!
