Christmas at Ft. Wilderness Campground

Christmas at Ft Wilderness Resort and Campground– Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground is a destination within a destination. I have previously posted about how you should really put this resort on your radar.  Christmas at Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground is extra, to say the least. If camping is not your jam, never fear you can experience all the Holiday wonder from a cabin on property!

So, how does Disney go above and beyond what would already be a great family getaway, you ask? Disney, of course, decorates the grounds with beautiful decorations and pipes in appropriately themed music.

You could say the entire resort gets a Christmas overlay. However, the most amazing part of the resort experience is what your fellow campers bring to the table.

The campers of Ft. Wilderness bring decorations that would make Clark Griswold jealous.  I really believe you would be hard- pressed to find more Disney themed inflatables in such a small square footage anywhere in the country.  I thought I knew what to expect when I heard that Christmas is big at Ft. Wilderness, but I am not sure anything could have prepared me for the massive amount of decorations and inflatables found at this resort.  If you allow yourself to stop enjoying the pure joy that looking at fun lights and whimsical decorations brings, you may be appalled at how much electricity is being pumped into this campground.  Rumor: this may be the sole reason Disney is building more solar farms.

There are a couple of ways to enjoy these lights. If you are staying at the campground or in the cabins I highly recommend you spend the money to rent a golf cart for at least one day of your stay. The campgrounds are quite large and this will give you one of the best ways to tour the lights to your heart’s content. The young and young at heart will really marvel at the amount of time and effort fellow campers put into their displays.  (For real — we saw a life-size castle facade complete with a life-size lit up Cinderella pumpkin coach).

Some campsites had upwards of 25-50 inflatables on display! Not only are the campsites lit… the golf carts are too. Next year I will be sure to bring some decorations for the cart as they were moving lights display themselves.

You can also purchase a Holiday Sleigh Ride (25 min for 2 adults and up to 3 children for $84). This may seem a bit expensive but I think this is a fun alternative to a Very Merry Christmas party. No, you don’t get to enjoy all that a party offers but you are able to enjoy a unique holiday experience for far less cost. It is also a great way to tour the grounds without camping or renting a golf cart.

While you are at the campground, stick around for Chip ‘N Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long. Cowboy John spends about an hour singing tunes (with some holiday favorites thrown in), tells some great dad jokes, and you get to do the hokey pokey with Chip and Dale.  You can purchase roasting sticks, s’mores kits, and moonshine cocktails at the “chuck wagon”  to help you feel more festive.

If you want to go all out, you can also have dinner at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. This dinner and show also has a Christmas overlay during the holiday season with the cast throwing in some holiday classics.  This was our first time at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. We enjoyed our time, but this event may be a one-and-done event for us. Perhaps this show deserves its own post to present all the pros and cons.  If you are a big fan of the show I think you may enjoy the holiday overlay.
