DIY Holiday Countdown with Hidden Mickey’s!
Sometimes the anticipation of a big event is almost as much fun as the actual event. Well almost. I am going to share a super cute and versatile DIY holiday countdown chart.

First off I have to give a shout out for this project to my super crafty mother who came up with this idea with a small amount of input from me! This hidden Mickey Christmas countdown can be easily swapped out to be a Disney trip countdown, birthday countdown, or any other special event for that matter simply by swapping out the embellishments. More on that later.
Supply List:
- Table Cover to protect your work area
- cardboard for painting
- Wooden Piece ( any Shape)
- Sandpaper or sanding block
- Clean tack cloth for after sanding
- Cardstock to cut template for design
- Marking pen
- Felt
- Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks
- Chalkboard Paint
- Chalk Paint Brush
- Disposable gloves ( optional)
- Velcro with adhesive back
- Chalk and Eraser
Directions
First, lightly sand the wooden piece you have chosen. Use your cloth to wipe down the board.
Paint on the chalk paint with the paintbrush following the guidelines of the chalk paint of your choice. Follow the links to find my favorite paintbrush and paint.
While your paint is drying make your patterns for your decorations. Cut your decorations out of felt.
In this case, holly leaves and berries are cleverly arranged to make a hidden Mickey.
Hot glue your design together.
Place one half of the velcro on the decoration and the other half on the painted board ( after it dries of course).
Here is where you can change out the decorations for various occasions. By using velcro to attach the decorations, this board becomes endlessly changeable.
Write your countdown on the board and enjoy it! If you are looking for another type of countdown check out Nicole’s post on another super cute DIY countdown.

I love how versatile this is! It can be swapped out for almost anything, not just a countdown. I think It would be cute displaying what dinner is tonight.

OK, first off, this is the cutest idea anyway. But the idea of velcro-interchangeable accents so it can be all-season? Pure genius!
Jen
Thanks! We wanted to get maximum use out of it

What a fun idea for a holiday countdown! I’ve always wanted to use chalk paint, so this project would give me a good excuse to go out and get some. My family likes to do a Christmas book advent activity as well. I wrap 24 (or more) Christmas books and let the kids open one each day in December leading up to the big day.
Jen
That’s a great idea
