Top 7 Ways to Stay Healthy and Not Get Sick for Your Disney Vacation

Stay Healthy at Disney: We all know the drill- you have a vacation coming up, and then all of a sudden, there seems to be a stomach bug outbreak at your kid’s school. It seems to NEVER FAIL. Or maybe that’s just me and my luck. It always seems like in the weeks leading up to our Disney vacation some sort of sickness is going around; whether it’s the flu, stomach bug, or one of a million other things.

Also, Disney World is basically a petri dish of germs, let’s be honest. It’s hard to stay healthy at Disney. Anywhere that has an abundance of kids is bound to be like that. And you really don’t want to get sick right smack dab in the middle of your magical vacation!

You don’t want to have a family member sick while on vacation, and you don’t want to get others sick too! So what do you do?! Well, I am going to share what my family does to prevent being sick (or getting sick) while at Disney World.

Update: Since I originally wrote this post, the world has changed quite a bit. If you are going to Disney World anytime soon, I highly suggest you click here and head to Disney World’s “Know Before You Go” page so that you can be updated with all of their latest rules and safety practices.

Elderberry Vitamins

I honestly swear by this stuff! There has NEVER been a time where my family has been taking it and been sick at the same time. I feel like its magic. We don’t take it all year, only during Flu season or about a few weeks before we are about to head to Disney World. Bonus points- they taste amazing (probably because they are coated in sugar, but as Mary Poppins says “A spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down!). Seriously, if you do nothing else in this post, take these starting at least 2 weeks before your vacation.

*Disclaimer- I am no doctor. I am only telling you my opinions based on my personal experiences. Always consult your doctor for any medical advice.

Sleep

You need to have a good night’s rest in order to stay healthy. I know for some of us that easier said than done. But it is vital with helping your body stay healthy. Make sure you are trying to get as much sleep as you can leading up to your vacation. Not only will it help you stay healthy, but you are going to have some busy days and long nights while on vacation. You might as well sleep now while you can.

Hydrate!

Seriously, if you think you are drinking enough water, you probably aren’t. Being hydrated is essential to staying healthy. Not only will it help you stay healthy before and during your vacation- Florida is HOT! You can get dehydrated fast- especially those who are not used to the heat and humidity. This is the exact water bottle that I use at home and while at Disney. It hooks on to my bookbag so I can carry it with no issue. It doesn’t keep water cold too long, but for me, that’s okay because I am constantly refilling it. The ability to hook it to my bookbag is more important for me.

Bonus- It comes in a lot of pretty colors! I just have the grey, but might get it in a different color soon!

Sanitize Your Surroundings

This one is a dual purpose for me. My son has a peanut allergy, so I am constantly wiping down where ever he is sitting to make sure there is no peanut residue on it (especially in airplanes!). You can never be too careful. With these, I am cleaning off the peanut residue, and hopefully getting rid of any germs that would get us sick while I’m at it. This way, we can stay healthy at Disney and hopefully not get sick! These also come in handy dandy travel packets- perfect for, you guessed it, throwing it in my bookbag.

Sanitize Your Hands

I like this hand sanitizer for a few reasons, but the main one being that it comes with a cute little case that you can easily connect to your bag! Super convenient!

Having hand sanitizer on hand is a great idea while in the parks. If we aren’t near a bathroom to wash our hands before we have a Mickey pretzel, then hand sanitizer it is!

Table Toppers

I have personally not used this, but once I saw it, I wish I had known about it when my son was a toddler! This is the perfect (not to mention the cutest) product for those little ones that don’t like to keep their food on their plate. Not only will this protect your kiddo from the germs of the table, but it will also be easy cleanup for you when your child gets, let’s just say, overly enthused with their food. It also comes in a travel packet, so you can easily store it in your bag.

Airplane Seat Covers

I have to admit- planes freak me out a little bit. As mentioned before, my son has a peanut allergy, and I am constantly worried that he is going to get an allergic reaction while up in the air. But then I discovered Airplane seat covers! This is another product that has a dual person for us. Protect my son from those pesky peanuts, and protect him from germs! This isn’t the exact one we use because it, unfortunately, looks like they stopped selling ours. But this one is pretty close!

Here is another option. This one is disposable, which might work better for some families. Mine is washable, but I kind of like the idea of disposable ones and I will probably purchase this one for my next trip.
