Your Kid's First Haircut at DIsney World

Their first words. Their first steps. The first time they slept through the night (my son was 13 months when he finally slept through the night…and yes, I’m just a little bitter about that…). As a parent, there are a lot of “firsts” that we remember. One of the memorable firsts is their first haircut. And what can make it more magical than having your kid’s first haircut at Disney! I find that a lot of people don’t realize this… but did you know that there is a barber shop right on Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom? It’s called the Harmony Barber Shop and it’s the cutest little place!

The Harmony Barber is located near the very front of Magic Kingdom and is very small, with only three chairs. Two of the chairs are used for reservations, which you can make up to 180 days in advance of your trip, just like dining reservations. The third chair is reserved for walk-ups. Even though the barbershop doesn’t book out, I do suggest making a reservation just so you can be on the safe side and know for sure that you will be able to get a seat.

So now that we got the basic info out of the way, back to Baby’s first haircut. Personally, I think the First Haircut Package is a great deal! For $25, your child will receive a haircut, super cute Mickey ears with “First Haircut” embroidered on the back, a lock of your kiddo’s hair in a little baggie, and a certificate with your child’s name, the date, and the location. They will also “pixie dust” (a.k.a. dump a ton of glitter on the head) your child if you’d like.

Kids tend not to sit still (shocker, right?), but the cast members do such an amazing job keeping them entertained! My son was handed tons of stickers when he first sat down in the chair. When that stopped working, his stylist pulled out a bucket of fun light-up toys! That kept him happy for a little while.

As you can see above, my son (who was 18 months at the time) wasn’t exactly thrilled about getting his golden locks chopped off. But the tears only lasted a few minutes.

Once the cast member let him look into the mirror, his mood changed! There’s nothing that a fresh new haircut can’t fix.

But the barber shop isn’t just for kids! Adults of all ages can take part in this hidden Disney gem. The photo above is of my husband, Aaron, getting his hair cut too! And for the low price of $19, I think it was the best haircut he has ever received!
