Colortopia-Overlooked Attraction
No Longer Current. This attraction closed September 2019
What is Colortopia? Why, I am glad you asked. It is a fun, interactive exhibit presented by Glidden paint and located in the Innoventions pavilion of Epcot. This is a super fun and not-so-crowded attraction. Stay tuned for some reasons to check it out!
First off, before we even talk about how fun this attraction is, let’s talk about the location. You can find this attraction in the often overlooked Innoventions pavilion. We have all hurried by it so many times on the way to something better.
We suggest, next time, that you pause and check it out. Can you say ice cold air conditioning? (It is still hot here in FL.) This is also a great spot to duck out of the rain. Part of the beauty of this attraction is that even though you are waiting for the main part of the experience there are several activities/stations that lead up to the main event. It’s a great thing with children as they are entertained along the way.
So, now for the fun part — I am going to try to give you an idea without completely spoiling the fun for you.
Obviously, with an attraction sponsored by a paint company, you can expect to be learning about color. Colortopia is split into three sections. The first section is a presentation about how color makes you feel. This plain room is filled with light, some dad jokes, and a better understanding of how color can change your mood.
The second section is a race against others in the room to mix colors to match a target. I have a great time in this section because I always beat my husband. Don’t be too impressed… he is color blind. Still, the whole family has a great time mixing colors and earning points.
In the third and final room, you are given a magic brush and enter a room full of magic paint cans. Just dip your brush in the paint color of your choice and you are ready to paint. You can change your color as many times as you wish. The walls are covered with giant murals that come alive with the touch of your magical brush. Changing the color of a tree on the wall, for example, will change the illustration. Some of the cleverness and funniness of the changes went over the kids heads. I think this makes it a great attraction for fun-seekers of all ages. This is an attraction for everyone; it transcends all age levels. Grandma, little Suzy, and even Negative Nancy will find some fun in this magical painting activity.
