The Perks of the Disney Play App

The Disney Play app has quickly become a must-have app for our Disney trips. The app can be used in both Disney World and Disneyland. I only have experience using it at Walt DisneyWorld so this article will reference Florida only.

You may ask, why download another app? What are the perks of the Disney Play app? This app has lots of cute features to keep you and your kids entertained in the parks.

Cute map with interactive elements
When you pull up the app it will show you where you are in the park and what activities are located nearby. It has options to listen to Disney music that you can download to enjoy later.

Activities to keep you entertained while you wait.
You can play various games while you wait in line. Have a long wait for Midway Mania? Pull up this app and you can play some fun games with multiple members of your party. Sometimes two people play at once, other times you take turns with the games. Either way, it is a great way to pass the time if you are in a line.

The Agent P Adventure in World Showcase
I will admit this game could use an update from a character standpoint. My kids don’t really know who Phineas and Ferb are, too be honest I missed them as well. However, we still enjoy the game. You will take your phone around the world showcase acting as a secret agent and foiling dastardly plots. Almost all the worlds have a different mission. Interactive elements that you may have otherwise missed will provide clues leading you through each pavilion. The game weaves you in and out of shops and to parts of the Pavillion, you may have never explored before. It’s a bit like the Pirates Adventure game in the Magic Kingdom.

The Data Pad in Galaxy’s Edge
If you are a fan of Star Wars you need to download the app. My kids are mega Star Wars fans and also love pretending and getting seriously into character. This app is perfect for passing the time in the line for Smugglers Run ( currently it has No Fast Passes). You can scan items in the line and take on missions. You can continue these missions as you leave the Millenium Falcon. My boys love tuning radio towers and doing secret missions for the resistance. This is a great way to interact with the land. Batuu has great shops and places to eat, but it feels like it needs more to keep you engaged. The datapad and the awesome cast members are the answer. Really I can’t recommend it enough.

The app will also keep track of the games that you have played and the achievements you have unlocked. It’s a great enhancement to your trip especially if the lines are long.

What are your thoughts on the app? Love it or leave it? What are your favorite perks of the Disney Play app?
