Halloween at Disney World with Food Allergies – Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Halloween at Disney World with Food Allergies: For kids with food allergies, Halloween can be a scary time (and I don’t mean the decorations). You never know where your allergen can be lurking. But, trick-or-treating at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is, as it says in its name, really not so scary! Disney World participates in something called the Teal Pumpkin Project. If you are unfamiliar with that, it’s when families put a Teal Pumpkin (teal is the color of allergy awareness) out on their porch to let other families know that they either have allergy-friendly candy/snacks or nonfood treats such as stickers. Disney implements this so well that kids (or kids at heart, because anyone of any age can trick or treat at Disney) never feel left out or afraid!

My son LOVES Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. The first time I ever went, we left my son with my parents. We thought that the late-night would not be best for him (my kid is just like his mama. He is pretty cranky when he doesn’t get enough sleep… or food for that matter. But that’s a different story.). But now we take him to the party with us! When we first walked into Magic Kingdom for the party, we were directed to the right to pick up our Trick-or-Treat bags. We told the cast member that my son, who was Pluto for the night, has a peanut allergy. She then handed him a teal bag. This bag indicates that the person who is trick-or-treating has a food allergy.

The regular bags treat bags are noticeably different. This helps the cast members who are passing out the candy to easily identify those who have an allergy and those who don’t.

Once you get up to the candy stations, the cast member will give you a teal-colored coin instead of candy. I found that it was best to remind the cast member that we needed an allergy coin. With so many people coming in and out of the candy stations, it can get a little confusing. Sometimes they just didn’t notice my son’s teal bag and move to give him candy anyway.

But, no worries! My son happily reminded them by asking, “Can I have a coin, please?” at every station.

Now comes the fun part! Once you are done Trick or Treating for the night, you get to trade those teal coins in for some yummy treats! There are two Allergy-Friendly Centers where you can do this. One is in Town Square Theater on Main Street USA, and the other is at the Liberty Square Ticket Office.

We went to the one at the Liberty Square Ticket Office. My little Pluto was so excited to trade in all of the coins that he had been collecting all night long!

They had all types of yummy allergy-friendly treats- from applesauce, to cookies, to candy, and more! Disney had a list of the ingredients right on the table so you can double-check and make sure it’s all safe for you or your food-allergic kiddo.

Once I double checked everything and told the cast member what I was comfortable with him having, she filled up his bag to the brim! He was one happy peanut-allergic Pluto!

Overall, we had a really great experience at the Halloween party! Disney knows how to make everyone feel special! Thanks Disney for making my son have a happy, magical, and safe Halloween!
